A staff psychiatrist at Menninger, Shweta Kapoor, MD, PhD, is also an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Kapoor's expertise includes chronic pain, complex trauma, suicidality, personality disorders and serious mental illness.
Active in research, she has presented nationally on topics such as opioid misuse, suicidal behaviors, bipolar disorder and more. Her research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed publications, including the Journal of Affective Disorders, Pain Medicine, Suicide and Life-threatening Behavior, Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology and Journal of Family Violence.
Among her recent honors are the American Psychiatric Association Junior Investigator Research Colloquium Award and the Outstanding Resident Award for Excellence in Research from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Kapoor is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association.
She earned her medical degree from Kasturba Medical College at Manipal University in India and then completed a residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Alabama and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Kapoor enjoys spending time with her family, including her two precocious kids, constantly changing her home décor, traveling, making charcoal portraits and pastel paintings, reading, gardening and sleeping.
