We strongly encourage family members of recently admitted patients to attend Family Orientation, which is offered every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4:30 pm CT at Menninger.
Please note: While the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing, Family Orientation will be conducted online.
To participate, a consent form, which is made available during the admissions process, must be signed by the patient. For questions about Family Orientation, registration information or the consent process, please contact your assigned social worker.
Participation is vital to helping you and your loved one make the most of treatment. You’ll have the chance to ask questions that are often asked during the first few family therapy sessions rather than use time in these valuable sessions for them.
During the orientation, social workers:
- Explain the interdisciplinary team approach and how it contributes to patient-centered care.
- Help family members learn more about the evidence-based practices used at Menninger (milieu, mentalizing, CBT, DBT, recovery, etc.) and the course of treatment from admission to aftercare.
- Highlight the importance of appropriate family support and involvement during the patient’s treatment and provide perspective and reassurance.
- Answer questions about what to expect from the treatment process.
